Ministry Teams are the people who serve behind the scenes and alongside one another to help carry out the mission of Decorah Covenant Church. Whether through worship, care, discipleship, outreach, or stewardship, these teams help create spaces where people can encounter Jesus and grow in faith.
This page is designed for those who are interested in joining a ministry team. Each section below provides a brief overview of the team and a way to express interest in serving. Some ministries have their own pages with more detailed information about programs and events — links are provided where available.
If you’re feeling drawn to serve but aren’t sure where you fit, we’d love for you to explore the teams below and take the next step.
Ministry Teams
Leader: JJ Johnson
Our Worship Ministry Team consists of the many folks who faithfully, thoughtfully, and prayerfully invest in our worship experiences on a weekly basis. This team includes musicians, worship leaders, the tech team, communion coordinators, prayer leaders, Scripture readers, preachers, and more.
Leadership: Marcia Sewick
The care ministry works to provide encouragement, care and support to our members and regular attenders on an as-needed basis. We have a team of six care coordinators who we call on to connect with people who are experiencing significant life events or are in times of need. These coordinators then organize efforts to help tangibly meet the needs of those individuals or families.
Leadership: Julie Chamberlain
The Adult Discipleship Team plans and oversees opportunities for college students and adults to learn, grow and practice the way of Jesus together. Current opportunities include:
- Sunday Morning Life Groups
- Wednesday Night Practicing the Way Course

The Children’s Ministry Team focuses on our children’s Christian formation at DCC. The team considers the weekly education offered and plans that lay the groundwork for each child’s spiritual journey. We incorporate materials that are age-appropriate and engaging for each student level.

The Warehouse Ministry Team helps lead ministries focused on our 5th-12th grade students. Through their presence and investment in relationships, weekly programs, and events, this team seeks to help our students come to know Jesus and live out that relationship on a daily basis.

Motivated by the love of God, the mission of The Kids’ Closet is to support local families by providing free, gently used kids’ clothing – in a joyful and non-judgmental atmosphere. Open hours are on the first and third Saturdays of every month, 9 – 11 AM. Volunteers are needed for hosting shoppers on open Saturdays, and sorting/moving clothing.
Leadership: Steve Krieg
Grillin’ for the Master is a group of people that wants to share/connect with others in the community by means of service… specifically, by way of sharing a meal. We want to share God’s love by serving and sharing meals with one another. We love grilling, spending time together as we prepare a meal, and serving others in this unique way.
Leadership: JJ Johnson
This team heads up the stewardship of our buildings and property. They evaluate maintenance needs, provide input on repair and remodeling projects, and help develop strategic maintenance budgets.
Leadership: Marcia Sewick
The aesthetics ministry is in place to maintain and update the decor of the sanctuary, hallway and gathering space. Our vision is for a simple, sleek atmosphere that positively impacts our ability to worship and enjoy the space with which we’ve been blessed.
