The Evangelical School of Nan Akou was established in 2015, starting with one class of 3 year old preschool. With no school building, they met inside the church of Nan Akou. There are no other quality schools in the nearby area so this school is a blessing and a hope for many. These rural schools are not funded by the government. They operate on private funds alone. In 2017 the construction of the preschool began. Each year as children are promoted, a new grade level is added. By the time this preschool building was complete in 2017, there were three preschool classes (ages 3, 4, & 5) filling it to capacity.
In order to attract quality teachers to this rural community, a teacher dormitory was added for the teachers. This addition to the school not only houses the teachers, but also a community radio station, a reservoir for water, bathrooms for the school, and the future office of the school. This addition is also housing two grades of the primary school until the school building can be completed. A third grade is currently meeting in the church.
The six grades of primary will be housed on the second level of this addition, when enough funds are raised for construction. This is considered one of the priorities in Nan Akou Ministries. Listen here as Sheslaire Georges, pastor and community leader, shares an update of the school.
Primary School Construction
There are currently six classes in Nan Akou Schools - three in the preschool and the first three grades of Primary School. As the Primary School is not constructed yet, these three classes are meeting in alternative locations - the church, the cafeteria of the teacher dormitory, and the future office of the school. These six classrooms will be constructed above the teacher dormitory. For more information on how to partner with Nan Akou School, email the church office at firstname.lastname@example.org
In order to attract quality teachers to this remote community, a teacher dormitory is provided. There are currently six classrooms with seven teachers (as one class is large enough to have two teachers) and one helper of the school. Join together with a partner, a family member, a Bible study group, or staff group and consider sponsoring a classroom. There are currently no classrooms being sponsored. Until now a church denomination in the States provided help when they were able, but that commitment has ended. Your help is indispensable! School Lunch Program
After the construction and operating expenses are met (or sooner), it is the hope that a school lunch can be provided for the children. Very often the meal given at the school is the main meal a child receives in a day. For now, parents send food with their child, if they are able to.
